Job Description

Job Title: Childcare/Head Start Support Staff
Program: Head Start & Early Childhood Programs (Ages 0–5)
Schedule:

  • Monday–Friday: 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM
  • 1 Friday a month off through May that is unpaid.
  • This position is reduced in hours in the summer with Head Start going on summer break but need someone who can still work 3:00-5:30pm Monday-Thursday in our childcare.

Position Summary:
We are seeking a reliable and nurturing Full-Time Childcare Support Staff member to provide additional classroom support within our Head Start, early childhood, and childcare programs serving children ages 0–5. This position plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment for young children.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands-on support to teaching staff in classrooms serving infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children
  • Maintain working knowledge of Head Start performance Standards and the Early Learning Framework.
  • Support the implementation of lesson plans and age-appropriate activities
  • Actively supervise children to ensure safety at all times.
  • Recognize and respond quickly and appropriately to children’s behavioral and emotional needs
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment
  • Build positive, supportive relationships with children, families, and staff

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with children age 5 and under (required)
  • Strong understanding of early childhood behavior and development
  • Ability to respond calmly, quickly, and effectively in a variety of situations
  • Patient, dependable, and team-oriented
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to meet physical demands of working with young children (lifting, bending, sitting on the floor, etc.)
  • High school Diploma
  • CPR and First Aid certification will be completed within 3 months of hire and every other year to re-certify.

Additional Information:
This is a position with reduced hours during the summer months with regular hours that start back up in August. Ideal candidates are flexible, energetic, and passionate about supporting early childhood development.
