- Must possess at least a High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must demonstrate strong communication skills, including the ability to remain professional at all times and under adverse or stressful situations.
- Must demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate with individuals of various mental capacities and abilities.
- Must pass physical agility and psychological exam.
- Must hold a current Driver’s License.
- Must be able to walk, run, lift, carry and have sufficient dexterity in all limbs to perform manual tasks associated with jail activities, including controlling altercations with inmates.
- Must be capable of physical activities which may involve restraining individual(s) and use of defensive tactics.
- Must have eyesight correctable to 20/20 and hearing within normal audible range.
- Must be able to testify in Court.
- Must pass full background check, including criminal history and credit evaluation.
DESIRED/PREFERRED
Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Corrections, Sociology, Psychology or a related field.
JOB DUTIES
1. Orientation and Training
- All training is conducted under the direct supervision of qualified training officers.
- Successfully complete or obtain waivers based upon an assessment of previous training and experience.
- Initial and ongoing training requirements include the Field Officer Training Program.
- Must attend and successfully complete an approved course of Correctional Officer Basic Training, typically assigned within the first year of employment.
2. Post related duties
- Supervise pre-trial inmates and convicted prisoners.
- Maintain unit security and manage inmate movement.
- Ensure inmate rights are always preserved
- Manage daily routines and schedules.
- Ensure inmates are properly admitted and released from housing units.
- Advise and counsel inmates as necessary
- Manage behavior and enforce rules; maintain accurate headcounts.
- Provide orientation to new inmates.
- Inspect cells and common areas and conduct searches for contraband; conduct regular well-being checks of all inmates as required.
- Administer medications as necessary; provide emergency medical aid as necessary.
- Refer inmates to facility services as necessary. Mediate and de-escalate conflicts between inmates. Respond to disturbances.
- Escort inmates throughout the facility. Conduct intake procedures with new arrivals. Conduct release procedures, as necessary.
- Document actions and observations as required by policy.
