Job Title: Accountant / Cost Analyst

Asphalt Contractors, Inc. is a second-generation, family-owned company that has been a trusted leader in asphalt, concrete, and aggregate services for over 45 years. We operate our own asphalt plants and aggregate pits and perform a wide range of work including grading, paving, curb & gutter, flatwork, milling, and asphalt maintenance.
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Accountant / Cost Analyst to join our finance team. This role is essential to ensuring accurate financial reporting and providing actionable cost analysis that informs strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Accounting & Reporting
Prepare and maintain general ledger entries, account reconciliations, and monthly closing activities.
Support year-end audit and tax filing processes through accurate financial documentation.
Assist in the preparation of financial statements and internal reporting packages.
Job Costing & Cost Analysis
Track, analyze, and report project-level costs including labor, materials, subcontractors, equipment, and overhead.
Perform variance analysis between actual and estimated job costs and identify key drivers.
Work closely with project managers, superintendents, and operations staff to ensure accurate job cost coding and reporting.
Support ongoing profitability analysis by job, division, and customer.
Develop and maintain cost tracking tools and dashboards for internal use.
Budgeting & Forecasting
Support the annual budgeting process and assist with quarterly forecasting updates.
Maintain cost history and trend data to improve future estimating accuracy.
Collaborate with operations and estimating teams to provide data-driven input for bids and proposals.
Process & Systems Support
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
2–5 years of relevant experience in construction, manufacturing, or project-based industries.
Strong understanding of job costing principles and financial reporting.
Advanced Excel skills; experience with ERP systems preferred (e.g., Viewpoint, Foundation, QuickBooks, or similar).
Strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.
