Asphalt Contractors, Inc. is a second-generation, family-owned company that has been a trusted leader in asphalt, concrete, and aggregate services for over 45 years. We operate our own asphalt plants and aggregate pits and perform a wide range of work including grading, paving, curb & gutter, flatwork, milling, and asphalt maintenance.

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Accountant / Cost Analyst to join our finance team. This role is essential to ensuring accurate financial reporting and providing actionable cost analysis that informs strategic decision-making.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Accounting & Reporting

    • Prepare and maintain general ledger entries, account reconciliations, and monthly closing activities.

    • Support year-end audit and tax filing processes through accurate financial documentation.

    • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and internal reporting packages.

  • Job Costing & Cost Analysis

    • Track, analyze, and report project-level costs including labor, materials, subcontractors, equipment, and overhead.

    • Perform variance analysis between actual and estimated job costs and identify key drivers.

    • Work closely with project managers, superintendents, and operations staff to ensure accurate job cost coding and reporting.

    • Support ongoing profitability analysis by job, division, and customer.

    • Develop and maintain cost tracking tools and dashboards for internal use.

  • Budgeting & Forecasting

    • Support the annual budgeting process and assist with quarterly forecasting updates.

    • Maintain cost history and trend data to improve future estimating accuracy.

    • Collaborate with operations and estimating teams to provide data-driven input for bids and proposals.

  • Process & Systems Support

    • Assist in the implementation and improvement of ERP and job cost tracking systems.

    • Help develop standard operating procedures related to accounting and cost tracking processes.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in construction, manufacturing, or project-based industries.

  • Strong understanding of job costing principles and financial reporting.

  • Advanced Excel skills; experience with ERP systems preferred (e.g., Viewpoint, Foundation, QuickBooks, or similar).

  • Strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.
