Trussbilt has supplied products to the majority of US detention facilities as well as to those in 17 foreign countries. Headquartered in Huron, SD with a sales and engineering office in Maplewood, MN, Trussbilt's innovative products deliver high quality, cost-effective solutions for the full range of security environments.

Our product portfolio includes security steel wall panels (TrussWall), security ceilings (BarrierDek, SecureDek and TrussDek), detention hollow metal doors and frames, commercial security hollow metal doors and frames, and specialty products (detention furniture, wire mesh frame and door systems, and Safe-T-Feed). Our newest product is a completely furnished and finished modular detention cell.

Principal Responsibilities

Will be solely responsible for the design and approval drawing for a customer’s order, and upon approval by the customer, you will be responsible for preparing the documents for the production team. Must be able to handle a high volume of work while maintaining a focus on 100% accuracy at all times, be a self-starter that has an internal will to succeed, must be comfortable with an extremely unpredictable nature of work flow, and be well organized.

Tasks:

  • Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with internal employees and customers.
  • Review architectural, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and structural drawings to obtain necessary information to design Trussbilt systems.
  • Understand and learn company systems, including but not limited to, TEAMS, Visual ERP, Inventor, and AutoCAD.
  • Prepare shop drawings for a variety of products that are used for submittal and manufacturing purposes.
  • Will be involved in continuous improvement processes (CIP) inside and outside their department.
  • Will keep all assigned projects on schedule and well-organized.
  • Will keep Project Managers up to date on all problems or potential problems on assigned projects.
  • Will maintain project file of all documents and conversations throughout the history of a customer order tracking any and all design revisions.

Knowledge

  • Primary software for drawing and design is AutoCAD. Inventor skills are a plus.
  • Knowledge and use of Advanced CAD tools.
  • Knowledge of general construction practices and procedures.
  • Require good knowledge of standard drafting principles and general practices in all areas of design.
  • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills, Business English, composition, spelling and grammar.
  • Must be Proficient in MS Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Knowledge of Visual ERP System a plus.

Work Activities:

  • Obtain information through review of architectural plans, architectural specs, sales takeoffs, customer correspondence, receiving and otherwise any and all relevant sources.
  • Analyze information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Use computers and computer systems to program, set up functions, enter data and process information.
  • Provide information to supervisors, coworkers by telephone, by email or in person.
  • Encourage and build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation.
  • Identify the underlying principles, reasons/facts of information by breaking down the information.
  • Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.

Education and Experience:

  • An Associates degree in Architectural Drafting and Design, or BS in Architecture is preferred, but would review candidates with equivalent work/design experience.
  • CAD certifications or other relevant forms of certification are a plus.
  • Strong positive employee relations experience in a non-union environment.
  • Strong leadership, team-building and communication skills are a must.

Work Context:

  • A typical work week is 40-45 hours per week. Schedules are typically Monday – Friday. Core hours are 8:30am to 3:30pm CST Monday thru Thursday and 8:30am to Noon on Fridays. Outside of meeting the total number of hours and being available during core hours, your schedule is flexible.
  • Your work is almost entirely indoors in an office environment. No lifting or physical demands are anticipated.
  • Some travel to company plants may be required periodically to learn the product and manufacturing processes.
  • 6 month training period (+/-) in person in either Huron, SD or Maplewood, MN office. After training is complete and you are relatively proficient in your work then you can transition to a flex schedule (2-3 days in the office per week) with the possibility towards a full remote position down the line.

Reports to: Project Manager / Director of Engineering

Salary: $50,500.00 - $58,500.00 per year DOQ/DOE
