HR/Payroll Specialist

DESCRIPTION

This role is responsible for managing payroll operations for all business units, ensuring accurate and timely payment of salaries, wages, and benefits, while also adhering to relevant laws and regulations. Additional responsibilities will include providing payroll/benefit customer service, researching pay check issues, and other related tasks as requested by human resources manager.

RESPONSBILITIES

  • Process payroll on a weekly basis per established state and federal laws, and company policies.
  • Manage tax withholdings and registrations, prepare necessary tax forms, and ensure compliance with federal, state and local tax laws.
  • Process deductions for various benefits (health insurance, retirement plans, garnishments, etc.) and ensure they are handled correctly.
  • Process and maintain wage garnishments and verifications of employment documents
  • Answer employee inquiries about payroll, resolve issues with paychecks, and provide guidance on payroll-related matters.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date payroll records and databases.
  • Collaborate with other departments to improve payroll processes and systems.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee payroll and personnel data.
  • Prioritize tasks and meeting deadlines related to payroll processing and reporting.
  • Prepare payroll reports for internal and external use, such as tax filings and audits.
  • Clearly and effectively communicate with employees and other departments regarding payroll-related matters.
  • May assist with the onboarding of new employees; enrollment and explanation of benefits, payroll pay statements and PTO requests, and answer any other questions that the new employees may have.
  • Assist in administering employee benefit programs and coordinating with benefit providers.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of human resources and payroll policies and procedures.

  • Audit experience
  • Prior experience with benefits plan(s)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least two years of in-house HR and payroll processing experience
  • FCP or CPP certificate or payroll training
  • PHR or SPHR certification
  • Experience in a transportation industry
  • Prior experience with Dayforce and/or UKG

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Sitting for long periods of time.
  • Use of computer and computer screen for long periods of time.
  • Lifting up to 5 pounds periodically.
  • Bending over and reaching over head occasionally.
