The Shift Supervisor ensures a safe, efficient, and high-performing work environment by providing leadership, resources, and training to team members; driving accountability to policies and procedures; and proactively managing people, processes, and equipment so that production, quality, and safety goals are consistently achieved.
Outcomes of a successful shift supervisor
- Daily shift production goals are being met or exceeded.
- Daily shift uptime goals are being met or exceeded.
- Shift team members understand the hazards and risks of the work they are doing, have access to necessary safety resources, and know that they are expected to follow safe work practices.
- Shift team members know their daily responsibilities and stay engaged in completing their assigned work.
- Shift team members have access to the necessary resources to do their assigned work. Including access to you as the supervisor for support and guidance.
- Team members that fail to comply with policies and procedures are held accountable.
- The process is being monitored in a manner that proactively prevents quality defects, unplanned work stoppages, and workplace injuries.
Mandatory responsibilities of a shift supervisor
- Provide all required training, including alchemy and hands-on training for new employees, including temporary staff.
- Approve timecards for their shift.
- Issue corrective action notices to team members that are in violation of policies.
- Incident investigation and reporting
- Report unplanned work stoppages and muster resources necessary to resume operation in a safe and timely manner.
- Ensure that suppliers never have a stoppage in the waste removal service that we provide them. (Day Shifts)
Scope of responsibility
- Oversee 3 full-time production operators.
- Lay-down Yard Operator, Assistant Operator, and Milling Operator
- Oversee additional temporary labor as needed to complete a variety of sanitation, shipping, and receiving tasks. 1-3 additional staff
- Oversee the maintenance work being performed during their shift.
- Additionally, day shift supervisors oversee 1 full-time truck driver.
