Job Description
Unite Contracting is hiring a Shipyard Electrician based in Tampa, Florida for full-time, year-round work. This is a permanent W2 position—not offshore, not seasonal. You’ll perform marine electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, and motor control work on tugboats, push boats, and crew boats at ports across the Tampa region. We are actively seeking candidates from Jacksonville and surrounding areas who are open to relocating or commuting to Tampa for a permanent position.
Local travel only — no per diem
Overtime available for after-hours service calls

What You’ll Do
- Perform electrical service calls, repairs, and maintenance on marine vessels (tugboats, push boats, crew boats)
- Install and maintain switchboards, controllers, motors, circuit breakers, alarms, and lighting systems
- Run cable, mount electrical equipment, and perform terminations and hook-ups
- Troubleshoot electrical systems using meters and diagnostic tools (voltmeters, ohmmeters, phase rotation indicators, etc.)
- Conduct insulation resistance tests on electrical cables and recommend repairs or replacements
- Maintain an inventory of electrical parts and assist with requisitions
- Support installation or modification of marine electrical systems (no shore-based or offshore work)
Requirements
- 5–7 years of marine electrical experience (required)
- Proficiency with motor controls, power distribution, cable installation, and terminations
- Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams and technical documentation
- Valid driver’s license; willing to travel locally to multiple ports in the Tampa area
- Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and professionalism
Schedule
- Full-time | 40–60 hours per week
- Day shift | Monday–Friday
- 8-, 10-, or 12-hour shifts depending on workload
- Overtime available for emergency or after-hours service calls
