Job Description

Position Summary

The South Berkeley Fire District is currently accepting applications for Volunteer Emergency Medical Responder (VEMR). This position is an entry level position and applies to volunteer personnel. All personnel are required to complete six (6) months of probation regardless of their level of training. The VEMR is responsible for providing medical first response/Emergency Medical Service support, firefighter rehabilitation, medical standby coverage for special events, and supporting the district’s mission of protecting life and property.

Shift Schedule: Required to work at least 48 hours per month after completing their initial course of training.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Respond to fire, EMS, rescue, and related emergency incidents.
  • Conduct apparatus checks, maintenance, and documentation.
  • Participate in required training, drills, and continuing education.
    • Volunteer Training meetings are held on Tuesday evening and Saturday morning.
    • Members must attend at least 50% of all scheduled training meetings.
  • Maintain compliance with District policies, SOPs, and safety standards
