NDDOT Hiring Salary: $11,364 / month

Lead District Operations
Serve as the Senior Engineer within the district regarding all issues pertaining to the condition and serviceability of the assigned road and bridge infrastructure and the day-to-day maintenance and roadway improvement activities. The selected applicant will oversee the engineering, maintenance, and improvement of all road and bridge infrastructure within a district, ensuring projects meet professional standards, comply with regulations, and coordinate smoothly with contractors, agencies, and local partners.

Ensure District Roadways are Safe and Effective
Assure the quality and overall readiness of roadway assets within the district geographic boundaries to maintain a consistent level of ride and load carrying capacity in line with department and district priorities and to satisfactorily meet customer expectations.

Develop and Implement Operational and Strategic Plans
Oversee the development of a variety of operational and strategic plans. Provide district input to the department-wide planning process. Assure that department and district assets are deployed and utilized to achieve the department mission, vision, and goals while balancing the needs of the local communities being served.

Leadership and Accountability
Provide leadership and accountability for all district staff by overseeing organizational structure, supervising and developing employees, strengthening engagement and communication, and partnering with HR on recruitment, performance management, compensation concerns, and workplace issues. Ensure a diverse, skilled, and motivated workforce while fostering an inclusive, transparent, and collaborative environment.

Develop, Monitor, and Adjust Budget
Develop, monitor, and adjust a district budget that aligns with department and district mission, vision, goals, and objectives and is adjusted as necessary to address unforeseen emergencies. This includes conducting a monthly budget status review to evaluate periodic and cumulative budget performance in comparison to the overall biennial budget, with close attention to the impact of unexpected or emergency situations.

Represent the Department to the Community
Represent the department to the community in the development and maintenance of road and bridge infrastructure that meets current and future economic needs and addresses issues within the community.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires registration as a professional engineer in North Dakota and four years of transportation engineering experience, which included responsibility for management of staff and administration of a major engineering function.

Requires satisfactory completion of the interview process, criminal background check, and a verifiable record of satisfactory performance in previous employment.
